The year 2022 has been significant for Journal of Materials Informatics (JMI). Thanks to the great effort and contributions made by authors, Editorial Board Members, reviewers, webinar supporters, readers, as well as the Editorial Office staff, JMI has achieved remarkable results and progress in the past year. Here, we would like to share the development of the journal in 2022 from the following aspects.

1. Publication

In 2022, JMI published four issues (Figure 1), including 20 articles (12 Research Articles, 7 Review Articles and 1 Viewpoint) with the research fields involving molecular dynamics simulation, machine learning, transfer-learning, deep learning, Bayesian optimization, active learning, high-throughput experiments, domain knowledge, Inverse design and so on. A total of 103 peer reviewers from different countries (Figure 2) strictly reviewed the articles and helped to improve their quality. The readers of JMI are widely distributed, including scholars from the USA, the UK, Germany and other countries (Figure 3).

2. Editorial Board

In 2022, seven outstanding scholars joined the Editorial Board and twelve young scholars joined the Youth Editorial Board to support the development of the journal. As of December 31, 2022, JMI has a total of 61 Editorial Board Members (EBMs) and Youth Editorial Board Members (YEBMs) from 11 countries, including the USA, China, Singapore, South Korea, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Japan, Australia, Norway and India (Figure 4).

3. Featured Content

To enhance the communications between scholars during the COVID-19 pandemic, we held six webinars in 2022, which were highly praised by scholars. More than 100,000 participants witnessed the success of these events. We highly appreciate these scholars (Figure 5) including Prof. Tong-Yi Zhang (Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences), Prof. Turab Lookman, Prof. Claudia Draxl, Prof. Huajian Gao (Memberships in US National Academy of Sciences, US National Academy of Engineering, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, German National Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academia Europaea), Prof. Yibin Xu, and Prof. Weinan E (Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences) for their great support of webinars. Please check the journal websites for more webinars: https://oaepublish.com/jmi/webinars

Also, we are horned to invite several outstanding experts to lead the Special Issues to gather brilliant ideas and inspiration in this field. The topics are as follows:

1. Accelerating the Fusion Between Machine Learning and Additive Manufacturing (Figure 6A)
2. Data-driven Materials Design via High-throughput Computation, High-throughput Experiments, Materials Database, and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (Figure 6B)
3. Computational Thermodynamics, Computational Kinetics and Machine Learning in Advanced Materials (Figure 6C)
4. Machine Learning Approach for Design, Development and Application of High Entropy Materials (Figure 6D)
5. Computational Modeling, Machine Learning and Data Mining in Ferroic Materials (Figure 6E)
6. Theory-Assisted Developing Electrocatalysis (Figure 6F)
7. Data-driven Modeling and Design of Quantum Functional Materials (Figure 6G)
8. Multiscale Modeling of Mechanical Properties of 2D Materials (Figure 6H)

4. Collaborations

To further promote innovation and development and expand the influence of JMI in the related fields, in 2022, we successfully cooperated with ResearchGate (Figure 7A) and five academic conferences (Figures 7B, C, D, E and F), which greatly encouraged academic exchanges, promoted our publications, and raised the visibility of the journal.
